If you can make rice krispies treats, you can make these. Except these are a whole lot healthier than rice krispies treats. Sprouted grains are better for us than refined grains because they retain more nutrients, and are easier to digest. They’re also helpful in controlling blood glucose levels, and may lower your risk of heart disease by increasing your HDL (good cholesterol), and decrease the risk of clogged arteries. What exactly is a sprouted grain? Sprouted grains are actually the traditional way of preparing grains. The grain is soaked in water in a dark place until it literally sprouts, which changes it’s composition and makes it more nutritious.
Obviously most people aren’t going to be sprouting their own grains at home, but you can buy foods made with sprouted grains. I was at our local health food store this past weekend and snatched up a box of Ezekiel cereal. However I’m really not a milk and cereal kind of girl, so I decided to make bars out of it instead. I wasn’t even planning on blogging about these, but they ended up being SO good that I just had to share the recipe. They honestly lasted in our house for about three days before we devoured them all up. Normally I’d feel pretty guilty about that, but the fact that these are rather healthy made me feel much better. Due to that reason, and because these are so simple to make, I think they’re definitely going to become a staple in our house.
