As healthy as we try to eat, I feel like snacking is an inevitable part of life. Rather than fight the urge to munch in-between meals, I keep our house stocked with snack food that won’t leave me feeling deprived. I obviously prefer to have homemade options on hand, but when those aren’t available and I need something RIGHT NOW, these are the store-bought snacks I turn to. Maybe not 100% health food, but also not complete junk food. As mom always said to us, everything in moderation…including moderation! I don’t feel quite so guilty when I snack on this stuff, but I also don’t feel like I’m missing out on life either. Food is life people.
Justin’s nut butters are THE best. They come in a variety of flavors, and the squeeze packs are much safer than a spoon and a jar when it comes to portion control. Yummy all on their own, or with apple wedges.
Late July multigrain tortilla chips are one of our favorite tortilla chips. We discovered them at Costco, but I’ve also bought them on Amazon and Boxed. Their dude ranch flavor is our healthier stand-in for cooler ranch Doritos. Also, the lime flavor is sooo good with salsa and guacamole!
Way Better Chips are another healthier chip option we love. I’ve only tried the Sriracha flavor, but I can only imagine the other flavors are just as delicious. I gave these to Zack to take to work with him and he came home that night saying they were the best chips he’d ever had. When your not so health food obsessed husband approves, you know they’re a winner! I also found these at Boxed. Love that site.
Pistachios, specifically the Wonderful brand, are always present in our pantry. I go through phases where I snack on these daily. I try to only use the shelled variety for snacking though, that way I eat them slower!
As much as I wish I could totally remove sugar from my life, I just can’t. My willpower sucks. Also, I like to enjoy life. Sugar, as much of a drug as it is, is a nice part of life. When the craving hits me for something sweet and I don’t want to go crazy succumbing to it, I grab one of these to suck on. In fact, our cookie jar is not full of cookies. It is full of nips. Both the caramel flavor, and the peanut butter parfait flavor (my fav). These cure my sugar cravings more often than not, without loading up on the calories.
When I crave chocolate and know nothing else will satisfy me, I reach for these. Ghirardelli intense dark chocolate sea salt soiree bars. Oh my gosh. So. Good. And okay, maybe not the healthiest option ever, but a couple squares will probably have you satisfied. Dark chocolate also has health benefits, so you don’t have to feel totally guilty either. I find I have to treat myself or I end up caving and making way worse decisions later!
Of course, like I said, I do try to keep homemade healthier snacks on hand at all times to. Some of my favorite recipes for that:
Hummus or Roasted Red Pepper Sriracha Hummus
Sweet & Salty Bites
Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Salted Chocolate Popcorn
Peanut Butter & Jelly Chia Seed Pudding
Toasted Coconut Chips
Homemade Peanut Butter
